Peter Rabbit and friends

I watched on Friday the movie 'Miss Potter' from telly about the life of illustrator Beatrix Potter and I was carried away with rabbits wearing blue velvet coats, cunning mice, frogs with fishing rods and newts in stylish vests.

It was quite a nice movie starring Renée Zellweger (though I always will imagine her as Bridget Jones) and at some point it was also very sad. I really liked the animated drawings, bunnies coming to life and goose honking. Also I wasn't aware how much she has worked with wild life preservation in Lake District.

Another Lord of the Flies Scene

This is right from the beginning of the book, Ralph and a boy that goes by a nickname Piggy find The Conch that will later become the symbol of the leader. When it's blown it gives a horn like sound gathering the boys for a meeting.

Lord of the flies

I read William Golding's iconic book 'Lord of the Flies' during morning hours this week. It was quite scary and mix of images and scenes from the story started haunt my head.

Here's Simon (I find it very clever his name is Simon as his doomed mission is tell the truth) meeting the lord of the flies.

I started to read John Connolly's novel collection 'Nocturnes', and it's really, really good. Here's an illustration loosely based on my favorite story so far, 'Erlking'.

Elementary, Dear Watson

I've been missing a good book to read after I finished The Historian. I've looked through all my old books and found nothing good to read, also visited the book stores but alas nothing captured my interest. Today I visited first time for two years in the local antiquarium, and was spellbound again. Why have I stayed away such a long time? :) The shelves were bursting with good books, books I've read and loved, and books I've always wanted to read, but never seen them anywhere. I must go back there next weekend. For the first aid, I grabbed the Sherlock Holmes omnibus in Finnish with magnificent Jeremy Brett on the cover (my favorite Sherlock) and also a little book about the Greek gods and goddesses. And this euphoria costed only 9 euros! Can't wait to start reading those books, I read a little bit the Greek gods book on a bus and felt very, very happy indeed! :)

Who dunnit?

I have always loved Agatha Christie's books. I also like very much the recent tv series of Hercule Poirot (the magnificent David Suchet is really awesome Poirot) and Miss Marple. There's something very comforting in the world of great detectives, they always solve the case and then it's time for tea and crackers. I love also the 'bad girls' in those books, they wear too much mascara and have a shabby fox fur piece hanging around their skinny shoulders.

El bunny killero!!

Vampire chicks can make stunning silhouette animals!! I'm reading in a metro on my way to work and back Elisa Kostova's 'The Historian' that is about Dracula, and vampires fill my mind exactly twice a day, 30 minutes each time.
